This dialog shows different options when you are creating a new grid or editing an existing grid. The Gridline Properties dialog box shows the existing grid spacing, which you can change. You cannot change the projection for an existing grid, which displays at the top of this dialog.
Selected Coordinate Systems
From this drop-down list, select a coordinate system to use for the grid on the map. The default setting, is to use the coordinate system that the map is currently set to.
Gridline Spacing
Use Auto Spacing
Select this check box to have MapInfo Pro calculate the optimum spacing at any zoom level.
Horizontal / Vertical
In the fields provided, specify the spacing for horizontal and vertical grid lines to use when zooming out of the map. Set this to optimize visibility at a specific zoom level. However, setting this could result in poor visibility of the map at some zoom levels, such as when zooming out to view the entire country after setting the grid line spacing for viewing a city.
If you enable Use Auto Spacing, then the Horizontal and Vertical values are in paper units and you can select the type of units to use: Inches, Centimeters, Millimeters, Picas, or Points. MapInfo Pro spaces the grid lines apart at approximately the distances you enter and then recalculates the spacing as you zoom on the map.
If you disable Use Auto Spacing, then the Horizontal and Vertical values are absolute distances in the units of the coordinate system (which the dialog displays). If the coordinate system is Latitude/Longitude and you have your map option set to display coordinates as Degrees/Minutes/Seconds, then you will see Deg, Min, and Sec fields. Otherwise, you will see Horizontal and Vertical fields representing spacing (enter double precision numbers).
