The 2021 Census was Australia’s eighteenth national Census of Population and Housing. A Census is the largest statistical collection undertaken by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Each Census aims to connect with every person in Australia to collect data on their key characteristics and the place they are staying on Census night. While some of this information is available from other sources, only a Census can provide the information for the entire country, including small geographic areas and small population groups.
