You can use the VeriMove internal CASS processor to execute the job on Windows, Unix, or Linux. If you are going to execute the job on z/OS or IBM I, you must use an external CASS product such as Finalist or CODE-1 Plus. For information on using external CASS see Using External CASS.
To perform CASS processing using the internal VeriMove CASS processor, follow these steps.
- In the VeriMove main window, double-click the job you want.
- Click the CASS tab.
- Select Internal CASS Processing.
-
To set up internal CASS, complete the following fields.
- City File — Specify the location of the City Directory File (supplied monthly as city.dir).
- Primary ZIP + 4 File — Specify the location of the ZIP + 4 Directory File (supplied monthly as zip4us.dir).
- USPS 3553 Report File — Specify the location and file name for storing the following reports.
- VeriMove CASS Postal Coder Summary Report
- USPS Form 3553 (CASS Summary Report)
-
In the Postal Coding/Environment Options group, select the following options as needed.
- Assign Carrier Routes — Internal CASS processing requires you to assign carrier route codes to the addresses in your input file. The Assign Carrier Routes field always displays in an enabled and grayed out mode.
- Assign Abbreviated City — To assign abbreviated city names to the addresses in your input file, select Assign Abbreviated City.
The USPS forwarding address does not contain an abbreviated city. If you specify a city output field only large enough to hold an abbreviated city name, truncation may occur.
- Use EWS — To use the USPS Early Warning System (EWS) File, select Use EWS and specify the path to the EWS file. EWS verifies input addresses that are not found in the current ZIP + 4 File against the USPS EWS File. If an input address is found in the EWS File, the input address is not matched to any similar addresses in the current ZIP + 4 File. Instead, the input address fails and is not coded until the ZIP + 4 File is updated with the correct address from the USPS EWS File. VeriMove reports these records as neither matched nor mismatched records. EWS processing is optional for Full Service Providers and all other licensees. The USPS updates the EWS File on a weekly basis.
If you use EWS, the ZIP + 4 directory file (city.dir) and the EWS file must be from the same month.
Example
Your input file contains the address "100 S. Bonnie Ct". VeriMove internal CASS processing does not find an exact match on the current ZIP + 4 File. The current ZIP + 4 File contains the address range 100 - 198 Bonnie Ave. VeriMove internal CASS processing would normally code the address as "100 Bonnie Ave". If VeriMove finds values for "S Bonnie Ct" for the input ZIP Code in the EWS File, CASS regulations require VeriMove to fail the address and not update the address until the USPS adds the valid address to the ZIP + 4 File.
