Input definitions describe the fields in your input records. VeriMove uses the information in the input definition to identify these items:
- Field names
- Starting position of each field
- Length of each field
- Records in a parsed or non-parsed format
Building good, accurate input definitions is critical to your success with VeriMove. When the definitions are accurate, VeriMove returns the Move Update data needed to qualify for postal discounts.
VeriMove can only process two names, one address, and one city, state, and ZIP Code per record. You can process all of these components or a subset thereof by including or excluding fields in the input definition.
If the records to be processed are from within your organization, the input definition (and output definition) only needs to be set up once. The only time the definitions need to be changed is when the format of the records change. If some or all of the files to be processed are from outside your organization (for example, if your organization is a service bureau), a new input definition (and output definition) may need to be set up for each of your customers. If your customers change their record layout, then the definitions used on those records need to be changed.
