The fields and matching algorithms described in the table given below are used to compare contact records.

Table 1. Matching Contact Records

Field Name

Matching Algorithm

Description

Street Name

Streets

This comparison does the following:

  1. Temporarily changes punctuation in each record (periods to blanks, ampersands to pluses).
  2. Applies a spelling algorithm to commonly abbreviated street words.
  3. If the spelling yields a score less than 80, applies a modified sound algorithm.
  4. If the score is still less than 80 for numeric streets, applies a word comparison routine.
  5. If the two fields do not match exactly, calculates two field lengths by excluding trailing blanks.

Last Name

Spelling

This general-purpose text comparison does the following:

  1. If the two fields do not match exactly, calculates two field lengths by excluding trailing blanks.
  2. Compares a hyphenated versus a non-hyphenated string of data, when the two data strings are of the same length.

House Number

Houseno

This comparison routine does the following:

  1. Compares two fields directly to each other.
  2. If the two fields do not match exactly, calculates two field lengths and starting positions by excluding leading blanks.

Apartment Number

AptNo

This comparison routine does the following:

  1. Compares two apartment number fields to each other.
  2. If the fields do not match, uses special functions to adjust field lengths and starting positions by excluding leading blanks.

Box Number

Absolute

Compares two fields, indicating if they are an EXACT match only.

Postal Code

Partial1

Compares the Postal Code of each record with consideration of comparing blank values and zeros. This comparison indicates if the values are exactly the same or not, with an indication if the values are blank.

City

Partial1

Compares the City value of each record with consideration of comparing blank values and zeros. This comparison indicates if the values are exactly the same or not, with an indication if the values are blank.

House Number and Apartment Number

Substring

Indicates if the Apartment number is also the House Number field. This is to help indicate that there may be a transposition of these values in the record and is thus indicated in the resulting pattern.

Name Prefix

Prefix

Compares two name prefix values and indicates how closely they match.

First Name

Frstname

This comparison routine does the following:

  1. Indicates how closely the fields match.
  2. If the two fields do not match exactly, calculates two field lengths by excluding trailing blanks and indicates how closely they match.

Middle Name

Frstname

This comparison routine does the following:

  1. Indicates how closely the fields match.
  2. If the two fields do not match exactly, calculates two field lengths by excluding trailing blanks and indicates how closely they match.

Generation

Gener

Indicates how closely the Generation values compare to each other. This algorithm indicates four different levels of matching from EXACT match to No Match.

Gender

Partial1

Compares the Gender value of each record with consideration of comparing blank values and zeros. This comparison indicates if the values are exactly the same or not, with an indication if the values are blank.

Standardized First Name

Frstname

This comparison routine does the following:

  1. Indicates how closely the fields match.
  2. If the two fields do not match exactly, calculates two field lengths by excluding trailing blanks and indicates how closely they match.
