When a Parser process cannot verify a word or phrase, it flags it as a possible problem. Each Parser handles word problems differently:

  • CDP. Flags words in the exceptions file it does not recognize, typically because of a misspelling; for example, cities, localities, and post towns. Modify words in the Parsing Exceptions Analyzer.
  • BDP. Writes words to the miscellaneous data output attribute that have not been defined in the Customized Definitions table.

Correct CDP word problems

To correct CDP word problems

  1. Launch the Parser Tuner.
  2. Open the Customized Definitions window and click below the line of asterisks.
  3. In the Navigation pane, under Word/Pattern Problems, click the item that corresponds to the word problem category you want to edit; for example, Possible Locality Problems. The Parsing Exceptions Analyzer opens with the selected word problem tab displayed.
  4. Locate the misspelled word and right-click. A New Entry window opens.
  5. Enter the correct spelling of the word and click Commit. (The Commit button displays to the right of the input field.) The corrected word displays after the 'RECODE =' in the New Entry window.
Note: When you correct a US city name, the 2-letter state abbreviation is automatically inserted before the city name in the New Entry window.
  6. Click Apply. The new entry is added to the Customized Definitions file in the last curser location.
