Trillium discovers metadata for each entity added to the repository. Entity metadata is summary information about an entity. Viewing entity metadata allows you to better understand the content and structure of your data.

View metadata for an entity in the following two ways:

  • In the Summary Data View of the selected entity. 
  • In a List View accessed from the Navigation View or the Summary Data View of the selected entity.

Entity Metadata Summary Data View

When you view entity metadata in a Summary Data View, the following types of metadata are presented across four tabs:

Content Summary

  • Entity completeness chart that illustrates the distribution of the attributes in the entity

Structural Summary

  • Row length distribution chart
  • Schema properties—schema name, file name, encoding, quote character, delimiter
  • Row properties—min/max row length

Relationship Summary

  • Keys (permanent/discovered)
  • Dependencies (permanent/discovered)
  • Joins (permanent/discovered)
Statistical Summary
  • Whisker chart for statistical analysis of numeric attributes
  • Maximum, minimum, median, upper and lower quartile values

About

  • Entity properties—name, type, state, business description, internal entity reference, connection data, row count, and which projects if any it is included in
  • Source properties—data source, source type, attribute count
  • Control metadata—analyzed date, analyzed by
Note: Each tab contains links you click to drill down to List Views of entity metadata. For more information, see Summary Data Views.

When you open the Entity Metadata Summary, by default, the Content Summary view opens.

To open the Summary Data View of entity metadata

  1. In the Navigation View, click the Discover bar, then click the Entities tab.
  2. Click the entity whose metadata you want to view.

    The Summary Data View for the selected entity displays. (If the view does not open, click the Metadata Summaries icon on the Home tab.)

  3. Navigate through the tabs as needed to view entity metadata.

Entity Metadata List View

When you view entity metadata in a List View, the summary data is presented in rows across the following three columns:

The name of the each type of metadata in the entity.

Value

The value associated with the metadata. For example, the entity name, the number of attributes and entity business rules in the entity, and the number of distinct values across all attributes in the entity.

Description

A description of the metadata statistic.

To open a List View of entity metadata

  1. In the Navigation View, click the Discover bar, then click the Entities tab.
  2. Right-click an entity whose metadata you want to view.
  3. Select Drill down to metadata.

    The Entity List View displays for the selected entity.

  4. Right-click a row to see a menu of tasks you can perform, such as drilling down for more information, opening a detail value, bookmarking the entity for future reference, and exporting one or all rows to a local or server system.
