Examining patterns is helpful when identifying format deviations in your data. If you have attributes that need to conform to a fixed format, such a date or currency format, you can examine patterns to find inconsistencies and errors.

You may find that you need to examine attribute rows and understand the context of a pattern before you can determine whether a pattern is correct or not. See Default, Rich, and Long Patterns for information about choices for pattern encoding.

To examine the patterns for an attribute

  1. In the Navigation View, click the Discover bar, then click the Entities tab.
  2. Expand the entity in which you are interested.
  3. Click the attribute with which you want to work.

The Summary Data View opens for the selected attribute.

  4. Click the Content Summary tab and click Patterns Distribution.

The Top 5 Patterns pie chart displays, showing the 5 patterns that occur the most in the attribute, and a section that represents the total percentage of other patterns found, if any.

  5. Click Consistency.
  6. Click Pattern Count.

The Patterns List View opens. (You can also click the Top 5 Patterns pie chart to open this List View.)

  7. Examine the Patterns List View.
  8. Select one or more patterns to examine, right-click, and select Drill down to matching values.

    The Values List View opens.

  9. Examine the data values that match the pattern code(s) you selected.
