The Window Key is generated from a window key rule selected. Before you can apply key rules, you must first construct them. 

Create window key rules

To create window key rules

  1. From the Navigation or Project View, right-click the Window Key Generator process and select Edit Process.
  2. Select the Keys tab.
  3. Select Input Attribute and click > to specify Window Key Destination Attributes where the generated window key will be placed on the output.
  4. Click Definition. The Window Key Rules for Window Key Generator window opens.
  5. Select the Manage tab.
  6. Click the Select Operation drop-down list and select Insert.
  7. If you are adding a new rule to an existing window key, select the rule after which new rule has to be inserted. If you are adding a new rule to a blank window key, leave the select the rule after which new rule has to be inserted box blank.
    Note: You can specify up to thirty (30) rules for each window key.
  8. Click Next. The Add Window Key Rule window opens. Specify the settings based on the following information.

    Description

    Which attribute would you like to take characters from?

    Select the primary attribute you want to use in building the window key.

    How many characters would you like to use?

    Specify the number of characters to use from the primary attribute.

    How would you like to select these characters?

    Selections you want to apply to the primary attribute.

    Note: The valid selection for Asian countries (China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan) is "Any character."
    Note: The selection is displayed as code in the graphical statistics file. See Selection (Primary/Secondary Field Code) for details.
    Which non-alphanumeric characters would you like to start after? (Optional) Specify a single non-alphanumeric character used at the start of the selection for a window key rule. For example, if a hyphen ('-') is specified, 'Consonants only' selection means consonants only after a hyphen.

    Use an alternative attribute?

    Select the value of the primary attribute that forces the use of the secondary attribute from the following options:

    • Never
    • If Original Attribute = Blanks
    • If Original Attribute =Zeros
    • If Original Attribute = Blanks or Zeros.

    If you select Never, click Finish. If you select one of the values, click Next and finish the remaining settings for the secondary attribute.

  9. Click Finish.

View or edit window key rules

To view or edit window key rules

  1. Select the View/Edit tab.
  2. Select the rule to modify in Select Rule.
  3. View or edit the settings based on the following information:

    Settings

    Description

    Primary Attribute

    Select the primary attribute you want to use in building the window key.

    Selection

    Selections you want to apply to the primary attribute.

    Note:

    The valid selection for Asian countries (China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan) is "Any character."

    Selection with special character (Optional) Select the check box and select a character used to at the start of the selection for a window key rule. For example, if a hyphen ('-') is selected, 'Consonants only' selection means consonants only after a hyphen.

    No. of characters

    Specify the number of characters to use from the primary attribute.

    Condition

    (Optional) Select value of the primary attribute that forces the use of the secondary attribute.

    Secondary Attribute

    (Optional) Select the secondary attribute you want to use in building the window key. Finish the remaining settings for the secondary attribute.

  4. Click Back.

Delete or copy window key rules

To delete or copy window key rules

  1. Select the Manage tab.
  2. Click the Select Operation drop-down list and select Delete or Copy.
  3. Select the rule to be deleted or copied.
  4. Click Finish.

    You can also copy the window key rules using the Copy and Paste buttons in the Keys tab. For example, if you want to copy the window key rules of Window_Key_01 to Window_Key_02, select Window_Key_02 in Input Attribute and click > to add the window key attribute. And then select Window_Key_01, click Copy, select Window_Key_02 and click Paste.

Reorder window key rules

To reorder window key rules

  1. Select the Manage tab.
  2. Click the Select Operation drop-down list and select Reorder.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Change the order of the rules using the Move Up/Down buttons.
  5. Click Finish.
