A key contains one or more attributes that uniquely identify data and distinguish it from any other row within an entity. You can add a Keys profiling process to a Quality workflow to create permanent keys from attributes in the input entity or the output of the Load process.

After you run the process, drill down to see the permanent keys created by the process.

Guidelines

  • You add a Keys process to a real entity only; you cannot create or discover keys for dynamic entities.
  • Permanent keys are keys that you create, and differ from potential keys that are automatically discovered when you first create an entity or run the Load process; discovered keys are potential keys you must verify before they become permanent. For more information about profiling data with keys, see About Key Analysis.
  • The Keys process creates keys using the attributes that you specify. If you want to discover potential keys on a sample of data instead, use the Load process.
  • You can add an Analysis process or another Load process off of a Keys process.
  • Before you can add a Keys process to a Load process, you must first run the Load process.
  • Dependencies and Keys processes copied to the Library must have a Load process as input, and the Load process must also be copied to the Library.
