When the Postal Matcher processes records from your input file, it assigns one or more review codes to the records based on the conditions found during processing. For example, there is a review code associated with invalid postal code and another associated with an unidentified token. Review codes are written to the pr_review_code_nn (nn=01-20) attribute. These review codes identify potential problem areas in your data.

Once the review codes have been identified, the Postal Matcher organizes the codes into review groups. Review groups are written to the pr_review_group attribute. Just as there can be multiple review codes for a single record, there can be multiple review groups. For example, the Postal Matcher might find both unknown tokens and missing name. However, only a singlereview group is written to the output file.

Modifying Review Group Order

It is important that you organize the review groups so that the one most important to you is at the top of the hierarchy, followed in order by the second most important group, and so on. For example, by default (except China), the first review group is 001, "Unknown token in address," which encompasses review codes for invalid token definitions, too many categories, and others. For your business needs, the most important review group might be 007, which identifies records without level 2 that matches the Global Address Verification (GAV) table.

The default review group order is as follows:

  • Korea, Taiwan, and Japan (standard) : 001, 003, 004, 017, 010, 005, 006, 007, 008, 011, 013, 012, 009, 002, 014, 015, 016, 000.
  • China : 010, 006, 007, 008, 011, 013, 012, 009, 014, 015, 016, 003, 004, 005, 002, 000.

To modify the review group order

  1. From the Navigation or Project View, right-click the Postal Matcher process and select Edit Process.
  2. Select the Options tab.
  3. Check Enable Review Group Order and click Review Group Order. The current review group order is displayed in the Review Group Order window.
  4. After reviewing the current hierarchy, decide what changes you want to make.
  5. Change the order by clicking the Move Up and Move Down buttons.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Finish.
Note: If you want to analyze the output for different review groups, you can modify the Review Group Order and rerun the Postal Matcher process.

Deleting Review Groups

The Postal Matchers for China, Japan (standard), Korea, and Taiwan generate fail level codes (pr_geocode_fail) for each row to indicate any potential problems. The fail level codes are associated with the review groups; for example, the fail level code 5 (postcode failure) is generated when the review groups are 012 or 013. Click here to see the fail level codes and their corresponding review groups. If you do not want particular fail codes to be generated by the Postal Matcher, you can disable them by deleting the corresponding review groups. For example, you can remove the fail code 4 by deleting the review group 001.

To delete the review groups

  1. From the Navigation or Project View, right-click the Postal Matcher process and select Edit Process.
  2. Select the Options tab.
  3. Check Enable Review Group Order and click Review Group Order. The current review groups are displayed in the Review Group Order window.
  4. Select the review group to delete and click Delete.
  5. If you want to restore a previously deleted review group, select any review group and click Reset.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Finish.
