The Global Data Router uses the following rules files to determine country of origin:

  • Global rules table. This table defines rules that apply to all countries. It contains translation tables, street types, city definitions, and other rules that require lengthy entries. The default table is rtrules1.win/unx.
  • Country rules table. This table defines rules that apply to all countries and specific countries. It contains weight parameters and detailed country-specific entries. The default table is rtrules2.win/unx.
  • City changes file. The city changes file specifies characters and words used for enhanced city name table lookup. The default city changes file is city_changes.tbl. For more information, see City Changes File.

You can control decisions, such as how data is matched and what country data is identified, by specifying the parameters that create the rules in the tables. The default file is stored in: C:/Program Files/Trillium Software/MBSW/17/tsq/tables/general_resources.

The Global Data Router provides an option to write out errors in the rules tables. To enable this option, go to the Output Settings tab and select the Output Rules Echo File check box.

You may also use the Customer Rules File which allows you to add your own user-defined rules. See Specifying Data Router Advanced Settings.

To edit advanced rules files

  1. From the Navigation or Project View, right-click the Global Data Router process and select Edit Process.
  2. Select the Advanced Rules tab. The paths and names of the default rules files are displayed.
  3. Click Copy to client. Select a destination folder and click OK. The file will be copied to the folder you specified.
  4. Go to the folder and edit the table in a text editor. See Parameters for Global Rules Table , Parameters for Country Rules Table and City Changes File for details.
Note: There are no strict rules as to which parameters should be included in each rules table. However, it is recommended that you separate global rules from country-specific rules to increase readability of the tables.
  5. Click Upload to upload the file back to the server.
  6. Click Finish.

The default version of the rule file remains intact. A new version, identified by the process number, is saved in the repository directory under the project folder (for example, C:/ProgramData/Trillium Software/data/metabase/repository_name/project4/tables/p24_2_rtrules1.win).
