The Joining Lines function enables you to join two lines during the parsing process. For example, if a logical address line spans two physical lines, the Parser may not be able to parse the data correctly. When you join the two lines, the Parser produces better results.

Note: The two joined lines need not to be adjacent.

After you create Join/Split/Set rules, you can delete or arrange them in the desired execution order. The rules are processed from top to bottom in the order shown in the list.

When you delete Join/Split/Set rules, they are not removed entirely from the process. Deleting will simply remove the rule from the condition associated with it so that the rule will not be executed. A "deleted" rule still exists in the process and can be reused by using the Add > Existing option. If you want to remove transformation rules completely from the process, you must use the Remove Unused Operations option.

To join CDP input lines

  1. From the Navigation or Project View, right-click the Customer Data Parser process and select Edit Process.
  2. Select the Options menu option.
  3. Click Advanced and select the Join/Split/Set option. The Join/Split/Set window opens, listing all previously defined operations.
  4. Right-click anywhere in the Join/Split/Set window and select Add > New > Join Lines. The Join Parser Input Lines window opens.
  5. In the Description field, enter a brief but meaningful description for the join lines operation. The description is used to identify the operation so you can refer to it in the Join/Split/Set window.
  6. From the drop-down lists, select the line numbers you are joining (in the Join Line and To Line fields).
  7. For the Join Line setting, select Match by Value or Match by Attribute Code. Attribute codes are numeric values you can use when defining the lines you want to join.
  8. If you selected Match by Value, enter the character string that must appear at the beginning of the Join line and select its type (Literal or Mask). This string is used to test whether or not the lines should be joined.
  9. If you selected Match By Attribute Code in step 7, enter the code for the attribute that marks the beginning of the Join line. For a complete list of attribute codes (and abbreviations), refer to the following topics:
  10. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for the second line in the join, this time specifying the ending value or code.
  11. (Optional) Check the Add space between lines box if you want a space to appear between the joined lines.
  12. Click Finish. The newly created Join operation appears in the Join/Split/Set window, and will be executed when you run the CDP process.
