A conditional split enables you to create output files that contain only those rows that meet specific conditions. For example, you could write conditions so that each country's records or each account rep's records are split into separate files.

To set up a conditional split

  1. Right-click the Merge/Split process and select Edit Process. The Options window opens.
  2. Select Split in the Process Type list box.
  3. Select the Split Options tab.
  4. In the Required partition method drop-down list, select Conditional split.
  5. In the Description field in the Define new output section, enter a description for this condition. The description will be used as a filename of the output file.
    Note:

You can only use certain ASCII characters (a-z, A-Z, 0-9, and _ ) in the description field.

  6. Click the Build expression... button ( ). The Set Row Filter window opens.
  7. Define the condition for this output file, using the procedures described in the topic Filtering Rows.
  8. Click Add New Output to display another set of fields and repeat steps 5 through 7 until you have defined all the output files you need. If necessary, click Remove this output to remove the condition and associated output file.
    Note:

If an output is deleted, you will be prompted to save the changes before navigating to another tab.

  9. (Optional) Select the Schema Editor tab and specify a different output schema for each output.
    Note:

Fro merges and all splits other than conditional splits, the Schema Editor supports one output schema. For conditional splits, the Schema Editor supports N output schemas where N is the number of conditions that have been specified.

  10. Click Finish when you have completed the setup.
