Attribute metadata is summary information about the data stored in an attribute (field/column). Trillium discovers metadata for each attribute in an entity. Viewing metadata allows you to better understand the content and structure of your data.

Note: A subset of attribute metadata, called derived metadata rules, are external to the attribute data and many are user-specified.

View metadata for an attribute in the following two ways:

  • In the Summary Data View of the selected attribute.
  • In a List View accessed from the Navigation View or the Summary Data View of the selected attribute.

Attribute Metadata Summary Data View

When you view attribute metadata in a Summary Data View, the following types of metadata are presented across four tabs:

Tab

Metadata

Content Summary

  • Distribution of distinct values, patterns, masks, soundexes, and metaphones.
  • Completeness—schema null rule, null count, null dist%, space count, space dist%, variable spaces
  • Validity—min/max, value dist%, metaphones, soundexes
  • Consistency—masks, patterns, phrases

Structural Summary

  • Datatype distribution—strings, decimals, integers, nulls
  • Structural details—min/max length, inferred datatype, target datatype, schema name, inferred precision, inferred scale
  • Datatype distribution details—count, distribution %, min/max value for each datatype

Relationship Summary

  • Data relationship analysis—permanent/discovered joins, keys, and dependencies
Statistical Summary
  • Whisker chart and standard deviation chart for statistical analysis of numeric attributes
  • Mean, median, mode, count, percentile, rank, standard deviation, statistical outliers

About

  • Percent populated chart—the percentage of attributes that contain data
  • Attribute business rules total compliance—attribute name, reference ID, attribute business rule compliance %
Note: Each tab contains links you click to drill down to List Views of attribute metadata. For more information, see Summary Data Views.

When you open the Attribute Metadata Summary, by default, the Content Summary view opens.

Attribute Metadata List View

When you view attribute metadata in a List View, the summary data is presented in rows across the following three columns:

Column

The name of the attribute.

Value

The value associated with the metadata. For example, the attribute name, the number of patterns and masks discovered in the attribute, and whether the attribute datatype is decimal, integer, or string.
