The phrase analysis feature lets you find word phrases in your data. The analysis search is based on the number of words you specify for the phrase and the frequency of distinctness for such phrases in a particular attribute. You can also use an ignore-words table to remove words you do not need from the analysis results.

You use phrase analysis to do the following:

  • Identify how string values are represented in an attribute and their level of frequency.
  • Find and compare word phrases that represent similar string values but have different phrasing, spelling, or meaning.
  • Select which values should become the standard to better meet your needs.

To set up phrase analysis for an attribute, see Analyzing Word Phrases in an Attribute.

How Phrase Analysis Works

Phrase Analysis identifies all unique words and phrases (series of adjacent words) that occur in a specified attribute. Use the results of the analysis to find and compare word phrases that represent similar "string" values but may have a different phrasing, spelling, or meaning. (For example, when you have two values that describe a product color, such as NVY and NAVY.)

You specify phrase analysis by opening the attribute for editing and setting the following values:

Phrases, between x and y words per phrase, and a frequency count of over: z

where x and y are numbers between 1 and 99, and z is a number between 1 and 9999.
