You can include attributes in many of the expressions you create using the Expression Builder. The Expression Builder displays all attributes available for the current entity (data source). Use this list to select the name of the attribute you want to use in the expression.

Note the following guidelines:

  • When you select Attributes in the left pane of expression elements, the Expression Builder displays all attributes available for the active entity (data source) in the right pane. Double-click the attribute name to incorporate it into the expression you are building.
  • You can select input and/or output attributes whenever you specify conditions or attribute transformations using the Expression Builder within a Transformer's Output Conditionals.
  • When you use the Expression Builder at the attribute level (for example, when creating or editing an attribute business rule), only the current attribute can be used in the expression.
  • Attribute names are case sensitive. They must be appear in the expression exactly as they display in the entity (data source).
  • Attribute names that include spaces (multi-word names) are added to the expression field in single quotes by default; for example, 'Attribute Name'. (Placing multi-word attributes in brackets is also supported; for example, [Attribute Name].)
  • Do not use attribute names that share function keywords; for example, Metaphone, Type, and Average. The Expression Builder will recognize these words as function keywords only. When necessary, change an attribute's name before using it in an business rule, conditional, or other type of expression.
