From the Project Library you can export and import library projects. Library projects are exported to local or server systems to be imported into other repositories. Library projects are exported as compressed XML files that are automatically uncompressed when you import them back into a Project Library.

Guidelines: Note the following when exporting and importing library projects:
  • Only library projects created and exported from a Project Library can be imported into the Library.
  • You can import files from your local system, remote systems including mapped drives, and UNC paths.
  • Exported project files are compressed, named projectN.prl, and saved in a directory named projectN, where N is the reference number of your project.
  • The compressed file extension .prl is unique to exported library projects from the Control Center.
  • Each time you export a library project, any previously exported projects in the target directory are overwritten. You can rename an exported file to save multiple versions of the same file.
  • You must have read access to any files you plan to import.

Export Locations

Local System. Select any directory on your system. This option is not available if your Repository Administrator has enabled the Disable access to file system option.

  • Server System. The file is saved to the following location on the server: p a th/export/repository/projectN where:
    • path is the default repository server path
    • repository is the name of repository you are currently logged into
    • N is the unique reference number of your library project

For example, C:\ProgramData\Trillium Software\MBSW\17\Data\export \metabase\myrepository3\project11

Export to a server system

To export to a server system

  1. From the Navigation View, right-click a library project and select Export. The Export Library Project Options window opens.
  2. Select Export to server file system.
  3. Click Export. The window closes and the file is copied to the export location.

Export to a local system

To export to a local system

  1. From the Navigation View, right-click a project and select Export. The Export Library Project Options window opens.
  2. Select Export to local file system.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Keep the default directory path.
    Note: The path field is empty the first time you export a project; thereafter it retains the last export path used.
    • Click Browse to open the Browse for Folder window. Select an existing folder or create a new folder.
  4. Click Export. The window closes and the file is copied to the export location.

Import a library project

To import a library project

  1. From the Navigation View, click the Library tab, right-click Projects, and select Import. The Library Project Import window opens.
  2. Select one of the following:
    • Use default project name.
    • New project name. Enter the new name.
  3. Click Browse.
  4. Navigate to and select the .prl file you want to import and click Open.
  5. In the Library Project Import window, click Import. A batch job message opens.
  6. Click OK. The scheduler bar opens.
  7. (Optional) Change the job name.
  8. Do one of the following:
    • To schedule the job to run immediately, click Now. The message closes and the job begins running in the background.
    • Click Later. The Set Date & Time scheduler window opens. To immediately run the job in the background, click Run Now. To schedule a time, select a starting date on the calendar and select a time you want the job to run on the selected date. Click Submit to save the scheduled time.
    • Click Cancel to cancel the task.
  9. When the import job finishes, click Refresh. The imported project displays under Projects.
    Note: If you import a project created in the previous version, the term Legacy Project is added to the project name.
