When you create a business rule (Entity Business Rule or Attribute Business Rule), you can promote and store it as a library object in the Business Rules Library. Once they are stored, the business rules become reusable and available in a Quality project. You can define a row filter or set a condition at any step by using the business rules from the library.

Note: You can work with non-library business rules from the input entity of a Quality process.

By integrating the Business Rules Library into a Quality project, you can:

  • Perform a data validation test at any step in the project
  • Achieve cross-project data quality with consistent rules
  • Automate transformation, standardization or cleansing functions
  • Split rows for data analysis or separate processes

For example, you can do a flagging or tagging: you create an attribute and set a flag or a literal value based on the conditional business rule. You can also automate remediation: a phone number can be reformatted into the standard pattern if it fails to match a valid pattern. A Decision Point process can also be added to split data based on the business rule results.

Note: You cannot use the business rules containing Expression Builder functions that are not supported for Quality processes (for example, "IS_NULL"). See Expression Builder Functions for details.
