Decision Routines are the program rules and instructions used in the Commonizer. The decision routines define how rows are selected for survivorship and commonization.
Decision Routine | Option | Description |
---|---|---|
Lowest character value |
Compares the character value of the attribute. The row that contains the lowest value will be commonized or designated as a survivor. Example: Row 1 = F Row 2 = M In this case, "F" will be selected. Note: The No Copy option is also available when the non-blank, non-zero, or
non-blank/non-zero option is selected. See Non-blank and Non-zero Options for
details.

non-blank/non-zero option is selected. See Non-blank and Non-zero Options for

Example: If "John" appears three times and "Jon" appears two times, then record with "John" will be selected. Note: The No Copy option is also available when the non-blank, non-zero, or

First value |
Compares the first value in the attribute. The row that contains the first value will be commonized or designated as a survivor. | |
Literal value (For Commonization only) |
Search for the specified value of the attribute. The row that contains this value will be commonized. Enter a literal value. Example: 978-436-8900 This example searches for the literal value "978-436-8900". The literal value must be the same length as the attribute. |
Survivor value found in list ( For Commonization only) |
Tests if the row is a survivor. The row that contains the survivor value will be commonized. |
