The Parser Tuner provides several options for adding entries to a custom definition table:

Guidelines:
  • Before using any of these methods, you must understand the syntax and conventions that apply to entries.
  • BDP definitions are also created and modified using:
    • The Word Definition and Mask Definition tools available from the BDP configuration window.
    • The word definition tables from the Library in Discovery.

Add Entries manually

To add entries manually

The most direct way to add entries is to enter them in the Customized Definitions file, which operates like a standard text editor.

  1. Open the Customized Definitions table, by clicking its name in the Navigation area.
  2. In the Customized Definitions window, click below the line of asterisks.
  3. Using the required syntax and conventions, enter the new definitions.
  4. Select Save from the File menu to save the entry in the Customized Definitions table.
  5. (Optional) Test the changes before applying them.
  6. Apply the changes to save them to the repository.

  5. Select the operation you want to apply to this word or pattern and click Next. For example, select INSERT. The Select Operation list is replaced by the Select Modifier list.

  10. Select the appropriate value and click Accept, then click OK. The Select Value list reappears.
  11. Repeat steps 8 and 9 until the definition is complete.
  12. Click Apply. The completed entry is added to the Customized Definitions table. The function automatically adds the proper quotation marks.
  13. Click Close to close the Build Entry window and end the session.
  14. Select Save from the File menu to save the entry in the Customized Definitions table.
  15. (Optional) Test the changes before applying them.

Use external files and copy/paste into the Parser Tuner

To use external files and copy/paste into the Parser Tuner

The Parser Tuner works with Unicode characters and uses UTF-8 encoding in the copy/paste operations. If you plan to use external files and copy/paste into the Parser Tuner, the best practice is as follows:

  1. Create the external file first with UTF-8 encoding. For example, use the file/conversions/ASCII to UTF-8 option in your text editor.
  2. Select the text from the Parser Tuner's Customized Definitions window and copy it using Edit/Copy or Ctrl+C.
  3. Paste the text into your new UTF-8 encoded external file using Edit/Paste of Ctrl+V.
  4. You may now make changes in the external file and freely copy/paste between it and the Parser Tuner's Customized Definitions window. Both the source and target are UTF-8 encoded Unicode and all of the Unicode BMP characters will be preserved.
  5. Select Save from the File menu to save the entry in the Customized Definitions table.
  6. (Optional) Test the changes before applying them.
  7. Apply the changes to save them to the repository.
