The Customer Data Parser identifies line types based on the types of attributes in a line. For example, if the Parser finds a title, first name, and last name on a line, it identifies the line as a Name line. If your input records are set up in such a way that one or more lines in a record are of a specific type, you can use that information to improve the efficiency of the CDP.
For example, if your records all have the format:
Joe's Pizza Shop
Joe Brown
11 Main St
Anytown, MA 01800
you can specify line 1 as a Business Name, line 2 as a Name, line 3 as a Street, and so on. If you are not sure or if your records are not consistent, you can specify a line as "Not Predefined" (default). For example, if some records start with a Business Name and others start with a personal name, you can specify lines 1 and 2 as Not Predefined, and still specify line 3 as a Street type.
To specify CDP input lines
-
From the Navigation or Project View, right-click the Customer Data Parser process and select Edit Process.
-
Select Options. The Options window opens, with the Parser input address line types in the left pane.
-
For each line in your input records, select one of the following line types:
Option |
Description |
Not Predefined
|
None. The CDP determines the line type (default).
|
Name
|
Input address line that contains personal and/or business names.
|
Business Name
|
Input address line that contains business names.
|
Street
|
Input address line that contains street components.
|
Geography
|
Input address line that contains geography components (neighborhood, city, state, county, and postal code).
|
Not a Name
|
Prevents the line from being identified as a Name line.
|
Note: These settings for the input lines take precedence over all other attribute
settings. For example, if you specify line 1 as the Business Name type but in one
record line 1 contains geographical information, the CDP still processes the line
as a business line.
-
(Optional) Go to the Parser Options pane on the right. From this pane, you can select names to write and specify how to identify business names.
-
Click Finish.
