The functions for the Metadata category refer to attribute metadata values. Use expression qualifiers to verify the expected attribute value. If the attribute metadata has not been analyzed (for example, when the data is not loaded), the function verifies a default value based on the metadata type.

Description

AVERAGE

Verifies the numeric average for all rows of an attribute in a entity (data source).

Note: Function is not supported for dynamic entities (data sources). Applicable only to real, fully-loaded entities (data sources). Not supported for Quality processes.
Syntax

AVERAGE(value) operator average

where

  • value is the attribute whose average you want to verify.
  • operator is the comparison operator (such as <, =, >) connecting value and average.
  • average is the numeric average you supply.
Examples
  • AVERAGE([total_accounts]) > 99.76 returns false if the average for all rows in the total_accounts attribute equals 79.76.
  • AVERAGE([salary]) < 99.76 returns true if the average salary for all rows is 79.76.
INFERRED_TYPE

Verifies a value as integer, decimal, or string datatype. Evaluation is based on the majority of values of that particular datatype across the full data set.

Note: Analyze the entity (data source) before running this function. This function is not supported for dynamic entities (data sources). Applicable only to real, fully- loaded entities (data sources).
Syntax

INFERRED_TYPE(value) = "Integer", "Decimal", or "String"

where value is the data value whose type you want to determine.

Example

INFERRED_TYPE(100) = "Integer" returns true.
PATTERN_STYLE

Verifies whether an attribute has the default pattern style 1.

Note: Function is not supported for dynamic entities (data sources). Applicable only to real, fully-loaded entities (data sources).Not supported for Quality processes; when used in Quality, the function returns a dash (-).
Syntax

PATTERN_STYLE(attribute) = "Default"

where attribute is the value whose pattern you want to determine.

Example

PATTERN_STYLE(phone) = "Default" returns true if the values in the phone attribute use the default pattern.
SCHEMA_LENGTH

Compares an integer value representing the expected maximum length of an attribute against the length as defined in the schema.

Note: Analyze the entity (data source) before running this function. Function is not supported for dynamic entities (data sources). Applicable only to real, fully-loaded entities (data sources). SCHEMA_LENGTH returns the length in bytes; LENGTH returns the length in characters.
Syntax

SCHEMA_LENGTH(attribute) operator integer

OR

LENGTH(attribute) operator SCHEMA_LENGTH(attribute)

where

  • attribute is the attribute value whose length you want to compare.
  • integer is the number you supply to check against.
Note: (attribute) and integer are connected by a comparison operator such as <, =, >.
Examples
  • SCHEMA_LENGTH(firstname) = 10 returns false if the maximum schema length is defined as 12.
  • LENGTH(Attribute1) <= SCHEMA_LENGTH(Attribute1) returns true if the length of Attribute1 is less than the maximum length as defined in the schema.
SCHEMA_TYPE

Verifies the schema definition of an attribute.

Note: Function is not supported for dynamic entities (data sources). Applicable only to real, fully-loaded entities (data sources).
Syntax

SCHEMA_TYPE(attribute)

where attribute is the attribute or data value whose schema type you want to determine.

Examples
  • SCHEMA_TYPE("ABC") = returns cp1252 encoding.
  • SCHEMA_TYPE(123) = returns Latin1 encoding.
SUM

Verifies the sum of values within an attribute against a supplied value.

Note: Function is supported for profiling processes. Function is not supported for dynamic entities (data sources). Applicable only to real, fully-loaded entities (data sources).
Syntax

SUM(attribute) = value

where

  • attribute is the attribute whose values will be totaled.
  • value is the number you provide to be compared against.
Example

SUM([Bus Name]) = 12 returns true if the sum of values (rows) in an attribute equals 12.
