You use the ARRAY1 and ARRAY2 routines to compare segments of a field to segments of another field, and then identify the relationship between these elements and blank values. The routine modifiers Array1,n and Array2,n define the length of the segment.

To run the ARRAY1 or ARRAY 2 routine with the Data Comparison Calculator

  1. Select the Compare tab.
  2. Enter a value for the first field in the Record 1, Field 1 text box, and then enter a value for the second field in the Record 2, Field 1 text box.
  3. Click the Encoding drop-down list and select the encoding used in the records.
  4. If you are performing a case-sensitive comparison, click the Match Case check box.
  5. Select ARRAY1 or ARRAY2 from the Comparison Routines list. The Array n ,n modifier is automatically selected.
  6. Enter the length of the segments you want to compare in the Additional Routine Modifiers list.
  7. Click Compare. The score is displayed in the Score field.

For example, suppose the phone_number field is 50 characters long, but typical phone numbers are only 10 digits long. You can use one of the ARRAY routines to divide the 50-character field into five segments of 10 characters each. The five segments of one field can then be compared to the five segments of another field.
