To enable Discovery Center repositories to connect to your data, the repository administrator must set up at least one data connection for each type of external data file with which you intend to work. Data connections allow Trillium repositories used by the Discovery Center to import from or link to both flat file data sources and relational databases.

You can also add a data source by directly loading a delimited data file from your local system. This method allows you to bypass the dependency on a data connection and is useful to quickly upload a sample data file from your local system to the Discovery Center for analysis.

CyberArk Security Integration

Discovery Center and Control Center can be integrated with your company’s CyberArk account security solution to make retrieving and passing database credentials more secure.

To use the integration, when you add a data source (entity) that uses a data (loader) connection to a password-protected database, rather than entering the database user ID and password, supply CyberArk credentials. Then, each time the data connection accesses a password-protected ODBC database, the database credentials are retrieved from an encrypted digital vault on a centralized CyberArk server. The credentials are unique for each data source you add. Even when CyberArk is configured, you still have the option to enter your standard database user name ID and password.

Note: Ensure the CyberArk password vault URL has been configured by your administrator for your software instance. If not, you will not be prompted for the CyberArk credentials.

To import from the server system and select data connection

  1. Do one of the following:
    • From the navigation menu, click Data Discovery > Add Data Source.
    • From a data source search results page, click Add Data Source.

The Add Data Source window opens to the Select tab.

  2. For Import from, ensure Data connection is selected (it is the default).
  3. In the Data Connection list, click the name of the data connection associated with the external data file you want to use. (If there is a long list of names, enter some or all of the name in the Filter field to filter the list.) The Data Source list populates with the names of all external data source files associated with that connection. If the list does not populate, verify with your Trillium repository administrator that the connection is valid and that files associated with that connection are available. Only files and directories for enabled connections display.
  4. In the Data Source list, click a data source file name. If needed, use the Filter to narrow the list.
Note: For file names, you can include the file extension in the filter criteria.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • Click Continue to save your settings and open the Configure tab. See Configure Data Source.
    • Click Cancel (or X) to close the Add Data Source window without saving your work.

Import from the Client System

To import from the client system

  1. Do one of the following:
    • From the navigation menu, click Data Discovery > Add Data Source.
    • From a data source search results page, click Add Data Source.

The Add Data Source window opens to the Select tab.

  2. For Import from, select Local file system.
  3. Click Browse. The Choose file to Upload window opens.
  4. Navigate to and select the file you want to upload.
  5. Select the file type. For example, for .txt and .csv files, select Custom Files.
  6. Click Open. The File Name field populates with the name of the selected file. The selected file will be uploaded to the server in the following directory: C:\ProgramData\Trillium Software\MBSW\17.3\Data\import\_upload\username.

If the message Unable to transfer file displays, click Browse to select another file or change the file type. If you select a file with the same name as a file in the server's import\_upload\username directory, the uploaded file will be preceded by a unique ID.

  7. Do one of the following:
    • Click Continue to save your settings and open the Configure tab. See Configure Data Source.
    • Click Cancel (or X) to close the Add Data Source window without saving your work.
