After you choose the data sources you want to comprise your permanent join, choose the attribute(s) in each that will make up the left-hand and right-hand attributes for the join analysis.

To select and configure the attributes for a permanent join

  1. In the Create or Discover Joins window, click the Attributes tab. The names of the data sources you selected on the Sources tab display along with a list of attributes for each data source. The attributes are displayed in the order in which they appear in the data source.
  2. (Optional) Click Add Filter Expression to filter a data source using the Expression Builder. Adding a filter expression allows you to filter the data rows you want to include in the join analysis. (For information about creating expressions, see Creating and Editing Expressions.)
    1. Enter your expression in the expression field.
    2. Click Done to apply the filter to the rows and close the Expression Builder. The text Filter Expression applied displays.
    3. To make changes to the filter expression, click the edit icon () .
    4. Click X to remove the filter.
  3. Select one attribute in each Attribute Name list. Note the following:
    • If you are joining on attributes within the same data source, you must select different attributes for each side of the join; you cannot join on the same attribute within a data source.
    • If there are long lists of names, enter some or all of the name in the Filter fields to filter the lists.
    • To sort the list in ascending order, click the Attribute Names heading. Click the heading again to sort it in descending order and again to display the original order.
  4. Click Add Join. The bottom pane displays the selected Left-Hand Attribute joined to the Right-Hand Attribute.
  5. To create a join with multiple attributes, repeat steps 3 and 4. Select unique attributes. You cannot select an attribute that has already been joined in the bottom pane.
  6. (Optional) To remove a join from the bottom pane, select a join and click Remove Join. This frees up the attributes to be used again.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • Click Continue to save your settings and open the Join tab. See Configure Permanent Join Analysis.
    • Click Cancel to close the Create or Discover Joins window without saving your work.
