The Discovery Center allows you to modify multiple business rules at once. When modifying multiple rules, you can edit the following properties:

  • Description
  • Enabled
  • Failing Rows Returned
  • Priority
  • Rule Name
  • Threshold

The topic describes how to edit non-library rules only. To edit multiple library rules, see Modifying Multiple Library Rules.

To modify multiple business rules
  1. In the Rules Search Results view, go to the Rules Results tab.
  2. Select one or more non-library business rules. To select a rule, click the check box, or anywhere in the row, to highlight it. To select multiple rules, press the Ctrl or Shift key and click the rows you want to modify. To select all rows on a page, click Select Page.
  3. Click Edit. The Edit Rules panel opens (if not already open). If one or more of the rules are library rules, a message opens alerting you that you must edit them in the library. Click Go to the library to open the library and edit the rules using the following steps or OK to close the message.
  4. In the Edit Rules panel, from the left drop-down list, select one of the following properties: Description, Enabled, Failing Rows Returned, Priority, Rule Name, or Threshold.
  5. In the to field, enter or select the updated value using the following guidelines:
    • Description: Enter text changes as appropriate.
    • Enabled: Select no (default) or yes.
    • Failing Rows Returned. Click the drop-down list and select Default (10,000 rows), Custom, or Unlimited. For Custom, specify the maximum failing rows returned by typing a numeric value. For more information, see Maximum Failing Rows Returned.
    • Priority: Select a rule priority from the drop-down list.
    • Rule Name: You can duplicate a business rule name if the name belongs to a different data source or the name belongs to a different library rule and is unique within the library. Otherwise, you will see the following message: A business rule already exists with the name specified.
    • Threshold: Enter a numeric value up to two decimal places (for example, 92.78).
  6. To make changes to additional properties, click the add criteria icon ().
  7. To remove the change you made, click the remove criteria icon ().
  8. Click Apply Changes. One of the following happens:
    • A Confirmation message opens. Click OK to close the message. The Rules Results tab of the Rules Search Results view refreshes to show the updated values.
    • An Incomplete Action message opens alerting you that one or more rules are in the library and cannot be edited in this view. Non-library rules were successfully changed. Click Go to the library to open the library and edit the rule(s) or OK to close the message.
  9. To edit more rules, select the rules to edit, and click Edit to open (or make active) the Edit Rules panel.
