You can save a copy of an existing rule in a rule set. This is useful when you want to quickly add similar rules to the rule set without creating new rules. You make a copy of an existing rule, give it a unique name, and modify its properties as necessary.

There are two ways to make a copy of an existing rule: copy a rule with new name or save a rule as a new rule.

Copy a Rule with new Name

To copy a rule with new name

  1. Do one of the following:
    • If you have existing rule sets and rules, In the Business Rules Library, go to the Rule Sets tab. Double-click the rule set in which your intended rule is included. The Rule Set: Name panel opens.
    • If you are creating a new rule set and adding a rule to the rule set, click Rules >Add New Rule Set in the left navigation menu. Create a rule set, add attributes, and add a rule to the rule set.
  2. Go to the Rules tab.
  3. Select the rule to copy and click Copy Rule. The Save As New Rule window opens. The original rule name displays in the Rule Name field.
Note: You can only copy one rule at a time.
  4. In Rule Name, enter a new name and click Save. You will see the copied rule in the Rules tab. You can now open and modify it as necessary.

Save a Rule as a new Rule

To save a rule as a new rule

  1. Do one of the following:
    • If you have existing rules sets and rules, In the Business Rules Library, go to the Rule Sets tab. Double-click the rule set in which your intended rule is included. The Rule Set: Name panel opens.
    • If you are creating a new rule set and adding a new rule to the rule set, click Rules >Add New Rule Set in the left navigation menu. Create a rule set, add attributes, and add a rule to the rule set.
  2. Go to the Rules tab.
  3. Double-click the rule you want to save as a new rule. The Rule Set: Name panel opens.
  4. (Optional) Modify the rule properties if necessary.
  5. Click Save As. If the rule's data set is associated with one or more data sources, you are prompted to click Manage Impact to make changes to the associations, or click Continue to save the associations.

The Save as New Rule window opens. The original rule name displays in the Rule Name field.

  6. Enter a new name for the rule and click Save. The saved rule is now displayed.
  7. Click Save to save your changes and keep the panel open for further modifications. Otherwise, click Clear to close the Rule Set: Name panel.
