Data connections enable the Discovery Center to link to an external data source and import (or link to) your data. You must configure at least one data connection for each type of database that you intend to profile. The Discovery Center imports (or links to) both flat file data sources and relational data sources.
When Discovery Center users add a data source to the repository, they select from a list of available data connections to load or link to their data. As a administrator, you have the option to select which repositories are allowed to access the connection. This helps restrict user access to certain data sources.
Create a connection to the following flat file and RDBMS data source file types:
- COBOL
- DB2
- Delimited
- Fixed-Length
- ODBC
- Oracle
From the Administration Center, perform the following tasks:
- Search for connections
- Examine connection metadata
- Add new data connections
- Modify connection properties
- Export connection metadata
- Enable and disable connections
