Microsoft SQL Server is a Relational Data Base Management System (RDBMS) that provides a secure, scalable and feature-rich environment on which to build an application with good performance. It therefore provides a solid foundation for a Capacity Database now and for the future.
SQL Server is available in a number of editions and the latest versions can run both Windows and Linux environments. Currently, you cannot use a SQL Server database on a Linux machine, nor can you capture performance data about it using the normal Acquire for Windows mechanism.
All data captured from Acquires or imported through Integrator is held in a SQL Server database. Some Syncsort™ Capacity Management data remains in external files, including:
-
Control Center work areas and Syncsort™ Capacity Management log files
-
Planner models
-
Various small administrative files
-
Schedules
-
Automatic Reporting templates and other updateable items such as Advisor Bulletins
-
Non-Integrator Custom Databases (CDBs) and templates
