The web-based Acquire interface to Virtual Center does not need any specific privileges to function correctly, so the user name you choose to access the performance counters can be assigned the built-in “Read-Only” role by a Virtual Center administrator so that all information can be retrieved: clusters, hosts, virtual machines, data stores and resource pools. This means that the userid should have “global” read-access to everything. This role will give Acquire access to the performance counters.
You must specify valid credentials to access the vCenter Web service. Failure to specify an account or use of invalid credentials will prevent the Acquire from parsing an APMconfg.txt, with the result that it is marked as Bad. This will result in a file called APMconfg.bad.txt in the APMIn folder, a message in the Application Event Log, and the reloading of the APMConfg.last.txt, if any.
