Configuring the FTP Push Server

The following is not an exhaustive list of instructions. Setting up and configuring an FTP server or FTP site is outside of the remit of Precisely to document, and will be different for every customer.

As Syncsort™ Capacity Management is a Windows application, most people will use Microsoft’s IIS component to host an FTP server, but this is not compulsory.

Any FTP server software that can cater for FTP or FTPS connections - depending on your choice of communication protocol - can be used. With IIS, for example, when creating an FTP site you can choose from No SSL, Allow SSL or Require SSL for connections. The No SSL option implies that you will use only FTP, not FTPS. The other two imply use of FTPS and the second of those options demands that you do so.

If you want to use the FTPS protocol you must set up an FTP site that is suitably equipped with a digital certificate. This can either be one your company provides, or can be a self-signed certificate created through IIS. Contact your company’s Windows administrators for advice and assistance, if you need it.
