Address Validation is an add-on feature for the EnterWorks New UI's Detail Editor. Once a repository has been configured with Address Validation, you can use it to make sure the address you enter into a record is a valid address.

Address Validation treats a set of address attributes like one address. Depending on how your EnterWorks system has been configured, these address attributes may be named something like:
  • Address line 1
  • Address line 2
  • City
  • State
  • Postal Code
  • Country
  • Latitude (optional)
  • Longitude (optional)
When you use Address Validation, it will combine the values of the attributes into one address and return a list of valid addresses that it thinks match your address or are a close match to your address. If you select one of the valid addresses, the address will be copied into the record's address attributes. Address Validation does not notify you if the address you enter is invalid. It does not change the validation status of the attribute or the record.

To use Address Validation:

  1. Open the record in the New UI's Detail Editor.
  2. Enter the address into the record's address attributes. In order for Address Validation to return a list of valid addresses, you need to enter at least:
    • Address line 1
    • Either the City and State; or the Postal Code
    • Country
  3. To the right of the name of one of the address attributes is an external editor icon . It will probably be the first of the address attributes. Click the icon.
  4. A custom pop-up editor will open. It has two lists:
    • Select a Valid Address: This has a list of valid addresses that match or are close to matching the address attribute values you entered. Addresses that are recommended have a Y in the Recommended column.
    • Address value editing fields: These fields are the values that will be stored in the record. The record's current attribute values are displayed above each of the editing fields. You can enter values into these fields. If you select an address from the Select a Valid Address list, the address will be copied into the address editing fields.

Edit the address editing fields as desired.

If you change a value in an editing field, the Select a Valid Address list is not updated to reflect your change. To retrieve a list of valid addresses based on the new address, you will have to click Update to copy the new address to the record, then open Address Validation again.

  5. When you are finished editing the address values, click the Update button. You will be returned to the Detail Editor. The address values from the custom pop-up editor will appear in the record's address attribute values.

If the repository is configured for geocoding, if you selected an address from the Select a Valid Address list, and if and geocoding coordinates are available for the address, when you click the Update button and exit the Address Validation editor, the latitude and longitude of the address will be copied to the record's latitude and longitude attributes.

  6. If you edit any of the address attributes while you are in the Address Validation editor, the latitude and longitude attributes may not be automatically updated to reflect your changes. You may need to reopen the Address Validation editor and select a new valid address to update the latitude and longitude values.
  7. To save the address values to the record, you must save the record before you exit the record.
