By using the Bulk Import capability, you can speed up the process of importing digital assets. This can be particularly helpful if you have a lot of digital assets to import. The Bulk Import capability periodically automatically uploads all the digital asset files in a designated folder (typically labeled DamDrop), stores them, generates variants, and creates their metadata records. Before this capability can be used, it must be enabled by an administrator.

To perform a bulk import of digital assets:

  1. Stage the files to be uploaded in a local directory.
Files placed in the upload folder will be uploaded without setting or changing the DamHierarchy assignments. To automatically assign the files to nodes in the DamHierarchy, define a folder structure that mirrors the DamHierarchy structure and place the files in the appropriate folders. New nodes will be created in the DamHierarchy structure if the directory structure does not match it exactly. For example, if a file is uploaded into the folder <drop_folder>\Furniture\Office\Desks, the DamHierarchy setting for the assets being loaded will be set to the Furniture.Office.Desks node.
  2. Determine the name and path to the bulk upload folder:
    1. Open the DamConfig repository by opening the Feature bar, expanding DAM, and double-clicking DamConfig.
    2. Find the record that has a Key value of SourceFolder. The name and filepath for the upload folder is the value of the Value attribute.
  3. Copy the staged files (including any folders) into the bulk upload folder. The folder is periodically checked for new items, and when they are found they are automatically uploaded. The frequency the folder is checked is configurable by the administrator. Results of upload processing can be viewed in the log file for the Asset Monitor process.
