Warning: If you add a language, enable a language, or change a language's padding factor, after you save the language, you must rebuild the snapshot tables for any repositories that have multi-language snapshot table support. To reduce the impact of adding a language or editing a language, you may want to wait until after typical work hours.

To add or edit a language in the Language List:

  1. Log into the Classic UI.
  2. Open the Language List by opening the Feature bar, opening System, and selecting Languages.
  3. To add a new language to the Language List, open the Activity dropdown menu, and select New.
    To edit a language that is already in the Language List, select the language, open the Activity dropdown menu, and select Edit.
  4. The Language Editor will appear. Edit its values:
    • Name: The name of the language. This is a multi-language field. The names you enter for Name and its language variant values are used to display the list of available languages.
    • Extension: Enter the text string that will be used as the language's extension. To make maintenance easier, use a standard language code like ISO 639-1 or ISO 639-2/T. The Language Extension must match the <language-extension> value in the language files:
      • eMessages_<language-extension>.properties
      • eMessages_<language-extension>_utf8.properties
      • <language-extension>.json
    • Description: (Optional) Enter a description of the language. This is a multi-language field.
    • Padding Factor: Ignore this field.
    • Enable: This determines if the language will be included in the list of languages that can be used as the session language and if it will be available for multi-language fields.
      • Yes: The language is enabled.
      • No: The language is disabled.
    • Available Groups and Selected Groups: Select one or more user groups and use the arrow buttons to move them from one list to the other.
      • Selected Groups: The language will be available for the user groups in this list.
      • Available Groups: The language will not be available for the user groups in this list.
  5. When you are finished editing the language, click Save.
  6. Clear the cache.
  7. If you added a language, enabled a language, or changed a language's padding factor, rebuild the snapshot tables for any repositories that have multi-language snapshot table support.
