Taxonomies and hierarchies are a special type of code set. They are hierarchical code sets. They consist of a node tree. The codes are nodes and they can have descendent codes. For a detailed description of hierarchies and taxonomies, see Taxonomies and Hierarchies

To create a hierarchy that is not restricted:

  1. Hierarchies are stored in folders. If you don't want to use an existing folder for the new hierarchy, create a new folder
  2. If the hierarchy will be using a properties repository, create it.
  3. Create the hierarchy's hierarchical code set.
  4. If this is not a restricted hierarchy:
    1. If you are using hierarchies for multiple repositories and their primary keys are not unique across all the repositories, then you need to have separate hierarchy catalog repositories for the conflicting repositories. If necessary, create a hierarchy catalog repository.
    2. Create a link relationship from each repository to the appropriate hierarchy catalog repository.
    3. Register the hierarchy.
  5. If this is a restricted hierarchy:
    1. Define the restricted hierarchy's control attribute.
    2. For each repository the hierarchy will access, add the repository's hierarchy's control attribute to the snapshot table:
      1. Open the Feature bar, open Content, open the repository's folder, select the repository, select Edit, select Attribute Properties.
      2. Select the hierarchy control attribute's Relational checkbox.
      3. Click Save.
      4. Clear the cache.
    3. If the hierarchy will have dynamic attributes:
      1. If you have not yet created the dynamic attributes, edit the profile and create them. When you configure the attributes, select Is Dynamic.
      2. Create the dynamic association object for the hierarchy.
  6. Hierarchies are securable objects and must be made accessible to the groups that need to access them. Define this hierarchy's security, see Define Access to Securable Objects.
