Warning: Editing a code set, hierarchy, or taxonomy
can affect existing attribute values dependent on the upon them. If an active code is
deactivated, any attribute values that have that value will be flagged as invalid. If you
modify an existing code, you will have the option to update existing attributes in
repositories that use the code set with the new values or to have them retain the old values.
In the process of creating or editing a code set, you can import code set codes from a file, copy in codes from another code set, edit codes, and set the sequence of codes.
To create or edit a code set:
- Log into the Classic UI as a user with administrative privileges.
- Open the code set folders by opening the Feature bar, opening Model, and selecting Code Set.
- The existing code sets will be displayed, grouped in folders. Open the code set's folder.

Create a new code set or edit an existing one:
- To create a new code set, open the Action dropdown and select New. A new code set will be opened in the Code Set editor.
- To modify a Code Set, select it, open the Action dropdown menu and select:
- Open: If you select Open, a history record will be created for each code set detail you change.
- Edit: If you select Edit, history records will be created for all code set details, even those that you do not modify when you edit the code set.
- If you attempt to edit an existing code set by double-clicking the code set, you will be taken to the code set's code list, where you can edit the code set's codes.

Edit the fields in the first page of the Code Set editor:
- Name: The name of the code set.
- Folder: The folder that holds the code set.
- Description: (Optional.) A description of the code set.
- Properties Repository: (Optional) Properties are optional. A properties repository contains metadata (properties) about the object it is assigned to. By using a properties repository, you can manage, import, and export the metadata as you would with any other repository.
- Include Owner: (Optional) If you select an owner, they and administrators will be the only user or user group allowed to edit the code set.
- Identify the Source of codes you want to add to the code set:
- Detail Editor: Create or edit codes manually. When you click Next,
a code detail editor will appear. Add, edit, or remove codes and descriptions as
desired.
- To create a code, click Add. To edit an existing code, select it and click
Edit.
- The Code editor will open. Edit the code's settings:
- Code Detail Id: This value is automatically generated and cannot be edited.
- Code: Typically an internal system code.
- Description: Typically a description that is easy for people to read.

Active Indicator:
- Active: The code is available to be used.
- Inactive: The code is not selectable by users. Attributes containing this value will be flagged as invalid.
- Pending:
- When you are finished editing the code, click OK.
- The Code editor will open. Edit the code's settings:
- To delete a code, select the code and click Remove.
- To reorder the list of codes, select one or more codes and use the Up and Down buttons to move the codes. This will change the sequence in which the codes are displayed to users.
- When you are finished editing the codes, click Save.
- To create a code, click Add. To edit an existing code, select it and click
Edit.
- From an Existing Set: This option only appears if this is a new code set. It allows you to copy codes from an existing code set that is in the same folder. If you select this option:
- A dropdown will appear that lists the code sets in the same folder. Select the code set you want to copy codes from.
- Click Next.
- The Manage Subset editor will be displayed:
- Available Codes: These are the codes from the source code set that have not been selected to copy into the target code set.
- Selected Codes: These are the codes from the source code set that have been selected to be copied to the target code set.
- To sequence the codes being copied into the target code set, select the codes and use the Up and Down buttons to move the codes to the desired location.
- When you are done selecting the codes, click Save.
- Import from a file: Import the codes from a file. If you select this
option:
- If this is an existing code set, Import Options will appear. They allow you to specify how the imported codes will be incorporated with existing codes.
- Click Next.
- You will be asked to choose the file import file:
- File: Choose the import file.

- File Format: The file's format.
- File Encoding: The file's encoding format.
- Detail Editor: Create or edit codes manually. When you click Next,
a code detail editor will appear. Add, edit, or remove codes and descriptions as
desired.
- Click Save.
- Code sets are securable objects and must be made accessible to the groups that need to access them. If security has not already been defined for this code set or it needs to be updated, do so: Define Access to Securable Objects.
