Every metadata field that is added to a work item viewer has a field order number. This number determines the order in which fields are arranged in a viewer when the viewer is generated. The field numbered “1” is the first field displayed in the viewer, the field numbered “2” is displayed second, and so on.

A field order number is originally determined by the order in which the metadata field was added to the viewer, but you can rearrange field order numbers so that the fields display in the order you want within the viewer.

To change field order for a work item viewer:

  1. In the Work Item Viewer dialog, right-click in the fields table and select Field Order from the shortcut menu.

  2. In the Field Order dialog, click a field name to select it, and then use the up or down arrow button to move the field to a new position in the order. Repeat this step until the fields are in the order you want.

  3. Click OK.

Note: Remember to click Generate to update the work item viewer with your changes.
