Metadata field definitions are contained within the properties of work item types. To determine which metadata fields contain information needed by the DPA, begin by determining which work item types are being used in the flow. After you know which types you are interested in, you can view the details for those work item types by double-clicking the type on the Work Item Types tab on the Process Flow Property editor. The fully qualified value shown in the Name column for the field should be used in DPA rules.
To do this:
In the Process Flow editor where you are placing the DPA, click the Work Item Types tab.
In the Work Item Type Instances table, review the metadata fields used in the flow to determine which fields you need to include in the DPA.
Note: You may need to double-click one or more work item types in the table to expand them and see which metadata fields they contain.
After you determine which metadata field(s) you need to reference in the DPA, you should open the Metadata dialog for each field to see the necessary information. In the Navigator pane, under the Work Item Types folder, double-click the name of the work item type that contains the first metadata field for which you need information, or right-click the name and click Open in the shortcut menu.
In the Work Item Type editor, double-click the metadata field.
In the Metadata dialog, note the Data Type setting, and the Value, Format Mask, and Possible Values settings (if they have been set). You will use these settings, as well as the metadata field name, when configuring the DPA.
Repeat these steps until you have found all of the information you need.
