This tool creates a grid over the input layer where every cell is a hexagon, based on the given edge length and the unit of measurement.
The Hex Grid tool can be selected by navigating the following path:
Tools > Vector Processing > Grid > Hex Grid
Once this option is selected a window appears where you can select the hexagon edge length to determine the size of the cell and the unit of measurement such as Meters, Kilometers, and Miles. This tool works on any type of layer and the required area of interest can be selected by Polygon Selection.
For more information about this method, see Data Selection Methods.
Once the input polygon is selected, a hexagonal grid is generated on the layer over the area of selection.
You can view the output after storing it. To save the output, you must enter the Output Layer Name and click on Save Data button. The saved output will be added as a new layer in the current map session, where you can apply styling as required. This output layer will also be available in 'My Data' section and can be used in any map session of interest.
