This tool generates a simplified output layer that removes the irrelevant bends and vertices of the polygon layer while maintaining its original shape.
The Simplify tool can be selected by navigating the following path:
Tools > Vector Processing > Geometry > Simplify
The first section requires you to select required data layers and parameters to run the Simplify tool.
- Select a Layer – Layer on which you will run this tool.
- Tolerance - Determines how simplification is desired for the output layer. As the value increases, so does the generalization of the layer. Smaller values provide greater accuracy in the selected region.
- High Quality - Ensures higher resolution for the output layer.
- Mutate - Improves performance of the tool over large datasets.
The second section requires you to select the range of data for the operation to be implemented. There are three options available:
- Select By Data Queries
- Select By Graphics
- All Data
For more information about these options and how to use them, see Data Selection Methods.
The output layer is represented by a highlighted polygons for all the regions taken from the input layer.
You can view the output after storing it. To save the output, you must enter the Output Layer Name and click on Save Data button. The saved output will be added as a new layer in the current map session, where you can apply styling as required. This output layer will also be available in 'My Data' section and can be used in any map session of interest.
