This tool produces a line parallel to the input at a distance specified. This tool is only available for line or line string layers.

The Line Offset tool can be selected by navigating the following path:

  • Tools > Vector Processing > Geometry > Line Offset

The first section requires you to select required data layers and parameters to run the Line Offset tool.
  1. Select Line String Layer – Layer on which you will run this tool.
  2. Distance – Determines distance at which line offset must be created from the selected line string layer.
  3. Units – Determines the measurement of the distance.

The second section requires you to select the range of data for the operation to be implemented. There are three options available.

  1. Select By Data Queries
  2. Select By Graphics
  3. All Data

For more information about these options and how to implement them, see Data Selection Methods.

The output line layer consists of parallel lines based on the lines selected.

You can view the output after storing it. To save the output, you must enter the Output Layer Name and click on the Save Data button. The saved output will be added as a new layer in the current map session, where you can apply styling as required. This output layer will also be available in the 'My Data' section and can be used in any map session of interest.
