This tool is used to aggregate features based on specific attributes within a polygon feature.

The Dissolve tool can be selected by navigating the following path:

  • Tools > Vector Processing > Geometry > Dissolve

The first section requires you to select required data layers and parameters to run the Dissolve tool.

  1. Select Polygon Layer – Layer on which you will run this tool.
  2. Dissolve By – You can choose from the following methods to implement this tool:

    • Geometry – This method generates a single polygon with the outermost boundaries for a multi-polygon layer.

    • Attributes – This method generates multiple polygons based on the attribute values. You must select the Attribute field to implement this method.

The second section requires you to select the range of data for the operation to be implemented. There are three options available:

  1. Select By Data Queries
  2. Select By Graphics
  3. All Data

The output is represented as a highlighted polygon based on the dissolve method selected.

You can view the output after storing it. To save the output, you must enter the Output Layer Name and click on Save Data button. The saved output will be added as a new layer in the current map session, where you can apply styling as required. This output layer will also be available in 'My Data' section and can be used in any map session of interest.
