To edit read-only files, you can open and save them into a native .TAB format.

To save read-only files as native files while you open them:

  1. On the HOME tab, in the File group, on the Open list, click Table to open the Open dialog box.
  2. In the Files of type drop-down list, select the read-only file format of the file you want to work with.
  3. Select a file from the list and select the Create copy in MapInfo format for read/write to open it in native (.tab) format.

If you do not select the Create copy check box, the file opens as read-only and you cannot edit it.

  4. Click Open to open the file.
    CAUTION:
These new files will not be updated with any edits you make to the original tables. The reverse is also true. While you can edit these tables in MapInfo Pro, your changes will not be reflected in the original data. When you open these files in this way, they are no longer linked to the original tables.
