The Snap to nodes feature is available while digitizing. However, the snap tolerance is a pixel value that is based on the current zoom level of the Map window. Press the S key to turn Snap mode off.
Auto polygon closure does not work in digitizing. You must click on the button you set up to close a polygon (or double-click on the button if you only have one digitizing button).
If you change the zoom level of your map, or scroll in the Map window after you have selected your digitizer points and then switch into digitizer mode, your cursor may disappear from the screen, because the location in the map corresponding to the puck is no longer visible in the Map window. The active Map window view must correspond to the view represented on the paper map to see the cursor when in digitizer mode. Zoom out to see the cursor again.
Using the Auto Node to Streamline Digitizing
When you are tracing over a scanned map, you may not want to press the button for each node as you go. When you are digitizing an image, you can enable the Auto Node function for stream digitizing, which drops nodes along the route you are tracing based on your tolerance settings. This functionality is available for the Add Polyline, Add Polygon, and Ruler commands.
To set up the AutoNode feature:
- From the PRO tab in the Options group select Map Window to display the Map Window Preferences dialog box.
- In the Digitizing Options box, there is an option called Auto Node Tolerance. If you leave the default entry (10) in this box, this means that while this feature is active and you are tracing a line, MapInfo Pro will drop a node every 10 pixels automatically. You can change this number to suit your needs.
Note: We recommend that you move your mouse slowly so you can be as accurate as possible. This ensures that the Auto Node are added correctly.
- Click OK to save your entry.
Using the Auto Node Feature
To enable Auto Node feature, press the N key and click to place your first node. MapInfo Pro computes the straight-line distance between that node in the polyline/polygon and the current mouse position. When you have moved the mouse at least as far as the distance you specified in the Auto Node Tolerance field, MapInfo Pro drops a new node to the object. This continues until you turn Auto Node off or you complete the objects you are creating.
To remove the previous node, press the Backspace key.
You can use this feature on maps. You toggle this feature as you would the Snap or Autotrace features. The word AUTONODE
displays in the Status Bar at the bottom of the application window when Auto Node is active.
