Table Manager tools allows you to get info about all currently open tables. In addition, you can view and edit Metadata. MetaData is information about a table that is stored in the table. You can also save Metadata in a separate file as a template and load it into a different table. Lastly, you can export Metadata in a format compliant with Federal Government Data Center (FGDC) standards.

You can load or unload the Table Manager Tool from the tools list in the Tools window. Click Tool Extensions on the HOME tab to display the Tools window.

Double-click Table Manager to display the Table Manager dialog.

  • To view the details and metadata of a particular open table, select it in the list box at the top of the dialog.
  • To view the value of a particular metadata key of the currently selected table, select that key in the list box in the MetaData section. The corresponding value is displayed in the text box below it.
  • To modify the metadata of a table, first make sure the Modify MetaData check-box is checked. This is disabled if the table is read only.
  • To add a new key, click on the Add button, enter the key name and value, and then click on the OK button.
  • To delete a key, select the key in the list box, and click on the Delete button.
  • To modify a key, select the key in the list box, and enter a new value in the text box below it.
  • To use an automatic value (date, time, etc.) in a key value, select it from the pull-down list below the text box.
  • To add all the keys and values from an existing metadata template to the currently selected table, click on the Load button and specify the file name of the existing template.
  • To save all the keys and values of the currently selected table as a metadata template, click on the Save As button and specify the file name for the template.
  • To write all the keys and values of the currently selected table into an ASCII text file in an FGDC compatible format, select the Export button and specify the file name.
  • To use an automatic value (date, time, etc.) in a key value, select it from the pull-down list below the text box.
  • To add all the keys and values from an existing metadata template to the current template, click on the Load button and specify the file name of the existing template.
  • To save all the keys and values as a metadata template, click on the Save As button and specify the file name for the template.
