MapCAD® has powerful CAD drawing tools that make working with graphical objects in MapInfo Pro even easier. MapCAD is an add-on to MapInfo Pro for creating maps that are appropriate for land development and surveying tasks.
Use MapCAD for building development for:
- Drawing property or unit boundaries.
- Drawing buildings of a fixed size.
- Changing the angle of a building to match roads and parcels.
- Moving or positioning buildings at specific distances from other buildings, roads or objects.
- Aligning, pairing, matching or mirroring buildings by aligning, copying, rotating objects and flipping them.
- Creating units according to descriptive definitions (“metres and bounds”) and/or with boundaries relative to other objects and at specific angles.
Use MapCAD for building infrastructure, such as for:
- Drawing ducts, pipes, and cables.
- Drawing ducts or pipelines at fixed intervals from road or parcel boundaries.
- Drawing ducts, pipelines, cables or wires at fixed angles from a road.
- Attaching text objects from a separate DXF/DWG imported layer into the associated sewer or pipeline layer.
- Changing line direction for the purposes of representing the direction of water flow.
MapCAD offers customization and drawing features, so that you can:
- Customize the MapCAD tool bars, so that only those features you need display.
- Automatically create lines or polylines from a table that contains coordinate information.
- Create circles from coordinates in a table to highlight points of interest, show assets, or define affected areas.
- Copy and paste styles from one object to another.

Enabling the Metes and Bounds option enables the functions Create Line / Polyline, Polar Append, and Calculate Direction, which are executed by using compass-like settings: N/ S xxx'yy'zz" E / W.
The term metes refers to a boundary defined by the measurement of each straight stretch, specified by a distance between the terminal points, and an orientation or direction. A direction may be a simple compass bearing or a precise orientation determined by accurate survey methods.
The term bounds refers to a more general boundary description, such as along a certain watercourse, a stone wall, an adjoining road way, or an existing building. The system is often used to define larger pieces of land where precise definition is not required or would be far too expensive, or previously designated boundaries can be incorporated into the description.
