You can add a border to a frame on the Layout canvas as a frame property. All frames may have a border and a fill color.

Shapes (ellipses, rectangles, rounded rectangles, and lines) do not have borders, but their display style is still set as a frame property. You can set the fill color and pattern for shapes, and the line style and width for shape outlines and for lines.

To add a border to a frame or change the display style of a shape:

  1. Right-click on the frame or shape and select Frame Properties to open the Frame Properties dialog box.

Double-clicking on a shape also opens the Frame Properties dialog box.

  2. Click Style . Depending on your selection, this opens the:
    • Line Style dialog box to specify the style, color, and width of the line.
    • Region Style dialog box to specify a fill pattern for the frame or shape, and border style (color and width) for the frame or shape outline. For frames, you can only set the foreground color.
  3. Click OK in the dialogs to close them and apply your changes.

The Frame Properties dialog box is also where you can change the frame or shape position from the top left corner of the layout, and size by setting width and height values.

Another way to change the frame or shape style is to select a frame or shape and then click one of the following commands on the Layout window.

Style The Style command list contains the following commands. The last selected style is active.

Region: Modify the style of a region object. Activate or open a Layout window and select a region object to modify.

Line: Modify the style of a line object. Activate or open a Layout window and select a line object to modify.

Frame: Modify the frame style.

Symbol Modify the style of a symbol. Activate or open a Layout window and select a symbol to modify.
