The curved label option gives you more control over the way your labels display.

To display labels along a curve:

  1. Open the map containing a line layer with labels you want to change.
  2. In the Explorer window, ensure that the Automatic Labels icon is active for the layer you want to label.
  3. Double-click the layer name in the Explorer window to open the Layer Properties dialog box.
  4. On the Labeling Rules tab, click label visibility On.
  5. Click Curved to display the layer's labels along the curve of the line. These labels are anti-aliased automatically to improve the display.

If you use Label Position to set the label's position, when you select:

    • Left, the curved labels are left-justified starting at the beginning of the arc/polyline
    • Center, the curved labels are centered on the midpoint of the arc/polyline
    • Right, the curved labels are right-justified at the end of the arc/polyline

The length of the polyline effect how the label is positioned. The longer the polyline, the more predictably the label displays.

  6. Click OK to save this option.

The map redraws with the change.
