By default, a legend frame includes a title. This is either the name of the layer, or it is a title of your choosing that was set when you added the layer legend using the Create Legend wizard (in the Create Legend - Legend Default Properties dialog box) or using the Create Thematic Map wizard (in the Create Thematic Map - Step 3 of 3 dialog box).
When you modify the legend title, you modify only that instance of the legend frame. Changing the contents of a legend frame in one window, does not change it in any other open windows. This behavior is different from thematic map legend frames, which populate legend frame changes across all of the windows that contain it. To modify a single instance of a thematic map legend frame that appears in more than one window, you must recreate it using the Create Thematic Map wizard (on the MAP tab, in the Content group, click Add Theme) and modify the resulting new legend frame.
To modify a legend title, add a subtitle, and set the title text style:
- Double-click on the legend frame.
- In the Legend Frame Properties dialog box:
- Delete or change a legend title: In the Title textbox, change the text or leave blank to have no title.
- Add a subtitle: In the Subtitle textbox, add text or leave blank to have no subtitle.
- Change the font style for a title: Click either the Title Font button or the Subtitle Font button, and then make your selections in the Text Style dialog box.
- Click OK to apply your changes.
